Del Mont Place I

Traditional lands of the Darug people

Perched on the edge of the cliff at Copacabana, this steep coastal block demanded both resilience and restraint. The design embraces the drama of its exposed aspect, where uninterrupted ocean views meet the need for privacy and shelter.

Along each boundary, layered screening with coastal Banksias and Cottonwoods softens the edges and provides protection from the elements, creating a sense of seclusion without losing connection to the sea. Locally quarried sandstone walls and pathways, paired with deco granite surfaces, anchor the garden firmly into the site’s geology.

Sculptural forms rise through the planting — from the architectural silhouette of Aloe trees to the tropical sweep of Bangalore palms — giving the space rhythm, contrast, and a presence equal to the dramatic setting. Hardy native understorey planting ensures the garden will endure the salt, wind, and sun, evolving into a resilient coastal sanctuary.

The result is a landscape that balances protection and openness — carved into the cliffside yet still breathing with the rhythm of the ocean.
