Fitzroy Street

Traditional lands of the Awabakal people

In the heart of Newcastle, this courtyard project transformed a compact urban space into a tranquil retreat. The brief was to create a garden that felt lush and restorative while still practical in scale — a green sanctuary that could soften the built environment and offer moments of calm in daily life.

Our design used vertical greenery, climbing plants, and layered textures to maximise every inch of the site. Hardy species were chosen for resilience and structure, while finer plantings introduced softness and seasonal change. Stone and timber details grounded the courtyard, with a small pond adding movement and a quiet sensory element to the space.

The result is a garden that feels both intimate and expansive — proof that even the smallest footprint can hold depth, texture, and atmosphere. It is a space for reflection and retreat, designed to bring nature into modern living.
